Nazee Akbari, D.Psych, is a registered counsellor and psychotherapist with a Speciality in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Dr. Akbari obtained her post-graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in 2002 following a Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of East London. She completed her Doctorate in Psychotherapy program at the Metanoia Institute in collaboration with Middlesex University in London.
With over 18 years of experience of providing mental health support to individuals, Dr. Akbari’s approach in therapy is Integrative, drawing on humanistic, psychoanalytic and cognitive-behavioural models. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy she has received specialist therapy training in working with addiction, phobia, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, working with Trauma, HIV and survivors of sexual abuse and series of training working with children. Her clinical experience includes bereavement, OCD, phobia, anxiety disorder as well as management of anger and violence.
Dr.Akbari is a bilingual therapist providing treatment both in the English and Farsi language. She has a passion for multiculturalism; developed through her own experience as an immigrant. This included loss of identity, being displaced from her place of origin, moving to another country where she had to master the language, and most importantly, losing the sense of culture and belonging. Throughout the years Dr. Akbari has been providing therapy to many individuals with cross-cultural conflicts.
Dr. Akbari is supporting PhD students at Anglia Ruskin University as an external supervisor and is a professional trainer, facilitator and presenter. During the past 12 years, she has been invited to more than 50 different conferences and seminars in the UK, Iran, and other countries. In addition, she has delivered more than 100 mental health awareness training courses and workshops to other professionals and members of public. She has written and translated many different articles on social and mental health issues. Nazee was privileged to translate the most recent book of Prof. Irvin Yalom, the father of Existential Therapy, with his permission which was published by Qoqnoos publishing company in Iran in 2015 (http://qoqnoos.ir/BookDetails.aspx?BookID=1274). She also had the honour of interviewing Prof. Yalom which was shown to the public at the launch of the book in Iran. Dr. Akbari is currently translating a book on the skills in Existential Psychotherapy for the Persian-speaking audience.
