What is anger?

Anger is within us all.  We all feel anger – it is a basic emotion but when it is explosive, sustained or suppressed it causes us problems in our daily lives.  By uncovering and dealing with the cause of our anger we can lead healthier lives.  We may think that “we do not get angry” but as it is a basic emotion, it could be suppressed and causing other issues like sleeplessness, problems with drink, substances, gambling,  food etc as well as  other physical symptons. Recognising this anger and being able to express it in a healthy way makes for a better relationship with ourselves and also those around us.

How to control anger?

You cannot control the situations that might provoke your anger, but you can learn to manage your attitude to them through anger management counselling, which can help with all kinds of anger issues from mild irritation to explosive, violent rage.

As an integrative counsellor and through years of experience treating clients with anger issues,  I found the cognitive behavioural therapy most effective. It  helps people to manage their anger and consequently solve their problems and meet their goals.

If you have difficulty managing your anger, in the safety of my therapy room, we can explore the triggers that precipitate your angry feelings and develop the skills you need to be able to handle  them more effectively. I will with you to target the multitude of other emotions entangled within anger – such as shame, fear and embarrassment – which may be having an impact upon you and lead to angry confrontation or self-harm.
